🏆 1st Place: Yuui

Artist’s Comment:

Title: Dance of Lights

In this piece, I wanted to bring to life the beautiful light shows typical of Japanese winter festivals. With the iconic Osaka castle in the background, I wanted Senmei to experience the almost magical scenery of the night illuminations, which run every winter on the castle grounds. And what better way to enjoy the festivities than trying the numerous food stalls that pop up in the popular festival sites. I imagine Senmei would surely enjoy the classic Taiyaki as well as the Hashimaki (basically an Okonomiyaki, her favorite food, rolled around a pair of chopsticks). I hope everyone can experience a light show in person in Japan one day!

Title: City Pop Senmei

Welcome to Toronto, Anirevo!! I decided to go for a city pop/night vibe because the city is so bright and beautiful when it’s lit up at night – and it’ll get dark outside faster by late November. I drew Senmei on the MCC building we will be at, right by the most iconic landmark of our city, the CN Tower! Hopefully seeing the area will warm your heart with fond, conful memories in the future. It’ll probably be cold (and maybe even snow!) by then, so make sure to dress warmly.

Title: Heels Over Head

I wanted to show a bit of Senmei’s clumsy side while also representing Toronto. And what better to represent Toronto with than skating at the Nathan Phillips Square? I also had to give her a cute Winter outfit of course!
