Props/Weapons
Policy //

To ensure all attendees, staff and volunteers feel safe during the event, ALL cosplay props and/or weapons must be inspected at our Prop Inspection Table by the Sales Desk. If a prop/weapon is not approved, you will be asked to take the prop offsite or to Coat Check before returning to enjoy the event. Standard MTCC Coat Check process and fees apply.

If any prop/weapon is being used in a threatening or intimidating manner, your badge will be confiscated and you will be removed from the event.

Please store prop/weapons safely when traveling to and from the venue, so as not to create an alarm outside of our event.

Failure to comply with our Prop Policy may result in removal from the event without refund.

Prohibited Items/Materials:

  • No Airsoft and/or Paintguns.
  • No props/weapons made entirely of METAL.
  • No illegal weapons (refer to the Canada Border Services Agency’s and Justice Canada’s information regarding prohibited weapons: https://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/dm-md/d19/d19-13-2-eng.html).
  • No props/weapons containing a majority of glass and/or ceramics.
  • No explosives and/or chemical components.
  • No leashes attached to any costume with the ability to be pulled or manipulated are allowed.
  • No yaoi paddles.
  • No functional non-metal firearms. (Eg: A Nerf gun is permitted with no ammo. A bow must have no drawback power and be unstrung outside of photos.)
  • No metal-tipped arrows.
  • No usable handcuffs, restraints or chains.*
  • No functioning laser pointers. (Eg: no battery)

*If permanently attached to the costume (not the persons) and unable to remove/use, this may be permitted on a case-by-basis.

Permitted Alternative Materials:

  • Plastic
  • Foam
  • Rubber
  • Wood**
  • Cardboard and similar craft materials
  • Metal***

**This will be treated case by case. Eg: Baseball bats, Kendo sticks, and/or Hockey sticks are not permitted.
***Metal components that are safe and not a majority of the prop/weapon may be permitted on a case-by-case basis.

Non-metal Firearms:

ALL Non-metal Firearms must:

  • Have an orange-capped tip/plug.
  • Be an obvious non-functioning and/or non-real replica.
  • Be non-functional and empty of ammo.

Bladed Weapons:

  • Bladed components MUST be non-metal (the handle may have metal components, but not be made purely out of metal)
  • All non-metal blades must be blunt.

ALL cosplay props and/or weapons must be inspected at our Prop Inspection Table by the Sales Desk. Approved props will be “peacebonded” with coloured, non-adhesive tape. Props must be inspected each day - with a different colour for each day of the event.
